Spring flowers hiking to the Rifugio Sassobianco (Dolomites)

In one of the few spare days among the tours, at the beginning of June, I went hiking to the Rifugio Sassobianco (1,840 m. a.s.l.), in the municipality of San Tomaso Agordino (BL), where I enjoyed the richness of Dolomites spring blooms.

The trekking started from the tiny settlement of Piaia (1,140 m), going through spruce forests largely destroyed by the storm called Vaia at the end of October 2018.

Along the trail, didn’t lack some of the most sought-after species of alpine flowers, including:

The small hut, Rifugio Sassobianco, so early in the season, was closed, but were already inhabited some of the small wooden “baita” that face to a lovely pasture: the view from there, with the sunshine, was definitely stunning!
